Run the Accounting Function in an Owner-led, Essential Services Business

Couffley Home Services is a 100% family-owned operator of Mr. Rooter Plumbing franchises across Oregon and Washington. The business has grown steadily for more than 30 years, providing essential plumbing and drain cleaning services. Following a recent acquisition, we now span seven locations and approximately 100 team members. At this scale, the accounting function is central to how the business operates, makes decisions, and plans for continued expansion.

We are excited to strengthen our accounting team with the addition of an Accounting Manager - the senior accounting leader for the organization. This role offers the opportunity to step into a true “run-the-function” position with visibility, influence, and direct impact on company performance. As a member of the management team, the Accounting Manager will work alongside experienced field and office leaders who all hold at least 10 years of tenure at Mr. Rooter Plumbing and will report directly to the Owner/CFO.

At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, we protect the health of our community through the most clean, courteous, and professional resolution of water and wastewater system problems. The Accounting Manager supports that mission by ensuring the financial systems, reporting, and discipline that allow our teams to operate with clarity, confidence, and accountability every day.

What Mr. Rooter Plumbing expects of the Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager is expected to take full ownership of the accounting function and operate it with discipline, urgency, and professionalism. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both technical competence and the willingness to engage directly with operational leaders to ensure financial accuracy and accountability across the organization.

Primary expectations include:

  •  Owning the accounting function end-to-end, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory accounting, and the monthly close, while providing day-to-day leadership for the accounting team members.
  • Maintaining accurate, well-supported financial records by ensuring transactions are properly recorded, accounts are reconciled, schedules and documentation are complete, and financial data is reliable for reporting, tax readiness, and decision-making.
  • Leading budgeting and forecasting activities, including maintaining budget models, preparing annual budgets, and producing rolling forecasts that reflect current operating conditions.
  • Preparing clear, decision-ready financial reporting for Owners, Senior Leaders, and Branch Managers, including results versus budget and prior periods, and highlighting key drivers and trends.
  • Personally engaging in the accounting work and continuously improving how the function operates, including refining processes, strengthening controls, and ensuring the accounting systems and tools are used effectively and consistently.

The ideal candidate brings these attributes and experiences:

  •  A hands-on accounting leader — not a distant reviewer. Comfortable owning the details of the general ledger, reconciliations, close, and reporting while staying engaged with how the business actually operates.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals and professional judgment. Deep understanding of GAAP-based accounting, balance sheet integrity, accruals, and close discipline, with the ability to produce clean financials on time every month. A CPA designation is valued, but not required.
  • A great teammate who respects the trades. Enjoys working with operational leaders who came up through technical roles and who prefer clear answers and practical insights over long meetings or polished slide decks.
  • Comfort in an owner-led, operating business. Enjoys direct access to ownership, practical decision-making, and working in a business where accounting supports daily operations, not abstract models.

How Mr. Rooter Plumbing supports the Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager joins a stable, disciplined organization that takes financial integrity, leadership, and operational execution seriously. This role is designed to build on a well-run business with strong foundations and clear expectations.

  • Clear ethical standards. Ownership maintains disciplined separation between personal and business finances, with clean books and no expectation of the Accounting Manager to operate in gray areas or “look the other way.”
  • Sophistication beyond size. A multi-location, multi-state business with documented processes, well-developed technology and systems, and management that values strong financial discipline.
  • Engaged, capable ownership. Direct collaboration with owners who are actively involved in the business, including a CFO-owner focused on financial rigor and a President-owner with deep executive and operational leadership experience in his 30-year pre-plumbing career.
  • Stable, experienced management team. Long-tenured field and office leaders who bring continuity, institutional knowledge, and a practical, collaborative working environment – and who all welcome the addition of this new role.
  • Professional external support. Partnership with Perkins & Co., a leading Portland-based accounting and tax firm that provides technical guidance, tax preparation, and compiled financials.

 Total compensation and benefits include:

  •  $110,000 to $130,000 base salary and a 10% annual bonus target
  • 401(k) with employer generous match and immediate vesting. 100% match on the first 3%, 50% match on the next 2%
  • 3 weeks of paid time off
  • 6 holidays
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance with $6,900 per year paid toward your premium by Mr. Rooter Plumbing
