Sell home improvement work the honorable way – with education and follow-through

Mr. Rooter Plumbing offers experienced sales professionals a long-term career helping homeowners solve complex, high-stakes problems with clarity, urgency, and professionalism — supported by strong lead flow, proven systems, and an installation team that consistently delivers on what’s sold.

Do you take pride in winning business by educating customers, responding quickly, and staying engaged until a decision is made — rather than relying on high-pressure, loss-leaders with scripted upsells, or haggling discounts?

Can you move comfortably between the basement and the living room, running an inspection camera through a drain cleanout one moment and presenting a polished proposal for a $15,000 underground project to a homeowner the next?

Do you value being part of a team, knowing that the work you sell will be executed by Underground Crews whose craftsmanship ultimately defines the customer’s experience and will match the vision you just sold?

At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, we protect the health of our community through the most clean, courteous, and professional resolution of water and wastewater system problems. The Underground Sales Consultant plays a critical role in that mission by helping homeowners understand what’s happening below ground and guiding them toward the solutions that repair their sewer for the long term.

What Mr. Rooter Plumbing expects of the Underground Sales Consultant

The role of the Underground Sales Consultant is to win business by earning customer trust, maintaining urgency, and delivering accurately-scoped projects that keep Underground Crews working efficiently and profitably. This role exists to convert drain service calls into sewer repair, replacement, and upgrade projects through disciplined follow-up and education-first consultation — not high-pressure sales. We only sell customers work that they need and want.

Primary expectations include:

  • Consistently converting company-provided leads into approved underground projects by responding quickly, staying engaged, and following through until the customer makes a decision.
  • Diagnosing residential sewer conditions using camera inspections and explaining findings clearly using visual evidence, plain-language education, and instructional materials.
  • Presenting multiple, well-reasoned solution options that account for system condition, property constraints, code requirements, and long-term performance, while guiding customers through the implications of each option.
  • Producing accurate project scope and pricing using the Mr. Rooter bidding process, with an emphasis on realism, margin discipline, and minimizing surprises for Underground Crews who perform the work sold by the Underground Consultant.
  • Serving as the primary customer point of contact from consultation through project completion, including managing expectations and coordinating change conditions when new information is discovered.

The ideal candidate brings these attributes and experiences:

  • A great teammate - not a solo operator. Courteous and professional with customers. Equally respectful of the Underground Crews who perform the work the Consultant sells, the Plumbers who deliver the leads, and the Dispatchers who coordinate the Consultant’s day.
  • Comfortable bridging professional presentation and hands-on field work. The Underground Sales Consultant is expected to present complex projects clearly and confidently in a homeowner’s living room, and also to perform light, hands-on tasks such as opening drain cleanouts, operating a sewer camera, and sometimes exploring a crawl space. Candidates who expect a purely desk-based or presentation-only sales role will not be a fit.
  • Demonstrated ability to hit sales and profit targets with a consultative selling approach. This role rewards people who combine urgency, persistence, and follow-up with credibility and trust-building — and it is not a fit for candidates who are uncomfortable owning outcomes or working a sales pipeline until decisions are made.
  • Technical aptitude and curiosity. Prior experience in plumbing, drain, or sewer work is an advantage but not required; what matters is the ability and willingness to understand underground systems, failure modes, and diagnostic nuance well enough to explain them clearly and confidently to customers.

How Mr. Rooter Plumbing supports the Underground Sales Consultant

The Underground Sales Consultant will join a supportive team with a manager with nine years at Mr. Rooter Plumbing and a proven track record as a top-performing Consultant. This role is supported by hands-on coaching, clear expectations, and systems designed to help disciplined, consultative sales professionals succeed:

  • A large, stable market for underground sewer work. Residential sewer repair is non-discretionary, and in this region aging infrastructure and aggressive tree roots create consistent, recurring demand.
  • A proven history of generating closeable leads. Mr. Rooter Plumbing has performed residential sewer work in the Seattle market for decades, and sales targets for the Underground Sales Consultant are based on real historical performance, with meaningful upside for ambitious individuals.
  • Established systems that support consultative selling. Clear and proven processes are in place for inspections, option development, pricing, documentation, and customer follow-through, allowing the Underground Sales Consultant to focus on execution rather than inventing their own approach.

Total compensation and benefits include:

  • $85,000 to $110,000 most likely annual pay based on sales target. No limit to sales performance pay.
  • 401(k) with employer generous match and immediate vesting. 100% match on the first 3%, 50% match on the next 2%.
  • 3 weeks of paid time off
  • 6 paid holidays
  • Excellent medical insurance with $6,180 per year paid toward your premium by Mr. Rooter Plumbing
  • Company vehicle and fuel card
  • Uniforms and cleaning service
